The Morrison Story
...an inspiration
Named after one of the founding designers of the Arts & Crafts movement, this, our model home in Aurora, Ohio, is an example of what can be designed and built in a gated, Jack Nicholas golfing
community. This 7,400 square foot Arts & Crafts influenced home has been featured on TV, in print and as a recipient of design awards. What others have said about this open floor plan based, cathedral, 1 ½ story, log and timber refuge:
- “I feel like I’m on vacation when I walk in the door.”
- “Some wood homes have too much wood for a house we’d live in all year long.
This has the right balance of the feel of wood and the use of color.”
- “I own two 7,500 sq. ft. homes, one on Lake Tahoe, and I’ve never felt more comfortable, like I can be me, as I feel in this home.”

A
great amount of research, and input from homeowners, designers,
and professional consultants was solicited to design a most spectacular
home. The objective was to create an extraordinary display that would
powerfully merchandize the unique aspects of Badger Brothers Homes of Natural Distinction™
and fit the precise requirements of our homebuyers who have been aggressively
raising the bar on what they want and need.
First and foremost this had to be an emotional home. It had to be
high touch, loaded with inspirational elements, a brush of spirituality,
strengths in natural materials, with highly detailed intimate
areas. Our clients had to subjectively fall in love from the moment
they drive into the driveway.
To accomplish this objective, the architecture is large and cohesive
in scale but maintains intimate areas. Curves and radials are
emphasized in windows, walkways, entries, door headers, dormer ceilings,
the dining room, and wherever we can find an opportunity to break
away from the
straight line. Large but finely Scribed Structural Log and Timber Trusses
make the great room a memorable experience: this wooden cathedral
with its stone fireplace, and overstuffed furnishings is not easily
forgotten. It invites.
The upper bridge space of the wooden cathedral becomes the nest amongst
the timber trusses, the twig scribed railings and the scribed staircase.
This upper nest is a warm and intimate space for one.
The
master bedroom is a restful blend of cedar cathedral ceilings, above
a comforted log scribed Badger
Brothers bed
that is uniquely finished with colors of maroon distressed over a
light wood base. The indirect cathedral lighting and sound system
add a romantic mood to this restful space.
The master bath is luxurious and expensive. Tumbled marble floors,
Moen's very best fixtures, extraordinary faucets and showerheads, Durango
limestone shower and countertops, mood lighting and sound;
the best of the very best up-front! Its what our clients expect.
The kitchen is a central gathering space with counter and center
island seating for six. Natural slate floors, beaded wood cabinetry,
granite slab countertops, and then a view of the stone fireplace make
this kitchen a nice place to be.
The
dining room is a radial timber scribed cathedral surrounded by glass
views to the golf course, (lakes and hills, or valleys and rivers)
that usually accompany our clients. The timbered ceiling is wood
that compliments the walls that are drywall and painted with a Ralph
Lauren textured paint in an unusual, complex shade of green. It
gives a warm, yet formal atmosphere to this unique dining space.
One bedroom upstairs is
designed for children. It has whimsical colors, bunk beds, built in
game and TV areas, and a bulletin board that list the soccer teams'
practice schedule. The most popular item is the "ship's
bunk" that was built into the roofline overlap, lined with
beaded cedar, and stuffed with the most comfortable brightly colored
bedding we could find. Every child that enters this room goes
straight for this space!
The upstairs guest room
presents the Badger Brothers barrel
dormered ceiling. This curved cathedral roofline is crafted with Badger Brothers
Natural Materials™
beaded white cedar. Indirect low voltage light strips provide a
curved halo to this wonderful room. A Ralph Lauren shade of color on
the walls compliments it all.
Our clients expect an
upscale secondary entry, mud room, and laundry: so that's what we
created. A barrel roof entry supported by massive stone columns
takes you into a nicely appointed "mud" room: slate
floors, Ralph Lauren walls, cedar doors into an attractive laundry
equipped with the top of the line machines under Corian countertops.
Light and sound are
critical elements to our clients. This Preserve model home was
carefully designed with the collaboration of a lighting architect.
It is a complex discipline that utilizes a wide array of lighting by
a central computer. This home does not have light switches that
clutter the walls. It uses touch pads that are programmed to create
specific moods based on a series of pre-determined vinyets or arrays
of light and sound. It assumes the consistent artform of intimate
lighting and sound in every area of the home, inside and out.
The landscaping artform
has become increasingly important. The necessity of capturing our
clients' emotion from the moment they step out of the car; dictates
a creative, appropriate landscaping. The Morrison is an
extraordinary example of Organic Landscaping. This is the
artform of large boulders, natural plantings, forest humus and
downfall, and most important, a flowing stream that curves through
natural waterfalls under the walkway and around the approach from an
upper to a lower reflecting pond. It is a sensational creation to
command an emotional first impression as our client walks up the
curving paved walkway to our main entry.
The objective was to
create the finest wood home in the industry that becomes a
"must see" for anyone considering an upscale architectural luxury home made from special Badger Brothers Natural
Materials™.
We have raised the bar to the level of our clients' highest
criteria. All of us are quite overwhelmed. The emotion works both
ways!
